Best selling Gaming Franchise PART 1

The industry of video games is mostly built on franchises. weither its pokemon or Metal gear or old or new as they dominate the store shelves. Altough a huge amount of people may complain that theres too many sequel, but many of the greatest games in history are a part of a larger franchise, and to honour the best of the best the super small team of   GEEKSHIVE ( seriously theres only 3 super lazy people who tries their best to deliver some stuff and thangs to you*ahem ahem awesome walking dead refrence* ) gives you the best selling gaming franchies.

GOLDEN AGE :

TETRIS :

Deceptive in its simplicity, Tetris became a overnight phemomenon. Toughh at first it may look like the sequels are nothing but the polished version of the original (well its partially true), they created little variations and created new strategies for one of the most addictive games ever made

HALF-LIFE :

When Mr Freeman started shooting in 1998 he proved that there's more to the First Person Shooter than running and gunning mindlessly. Half-Life had a variety of gameplay and at the same time it enhanced the FPS genre. The sequels and expansions of the franchise inspired the homebrew and modding community to go berserk. The sequel Half-Life2 continued Valve's standard of excellence, and the newest addition to the Half-Life's family, Portal will extend and revolutionised the franchise even further and has provided us with new gameplay possibilities.

MEGA MAN :

When Megan man showed up in 1987, he introduced us to a new playing mechanic that allowed the players to play the game levels in whatever order they desired. Up until then the games forced the players to progress in a pre-determined fashion . the series took this play mechanics and ran with it for two whole decades,  though the franchise has re-evoled past its original design and introduced a bunch of new characters.

SONIC :

In the early 90's the gaming industry saw the introduction of one of gaming's most iconic character Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic spawned a lot of animated series, comics, etc etc, and is the star of more cartoons than any video game character ever, it was once more recognised worldwide than Mickey mouse. Sonic was designed to be parallel to Nintendo's Mario, Sonic was the embodiment of 90s sheer badass-ness. The 2D Sonic games were hugely popular because of its incredible speed levels something the recent 3D entries are somewhat lacking but there's was no denying the power of this amazing franchise.

TOM CLANCY's SERIES :

Tom clancy was the king of all entertainment media. After a numerous amount of best selling novels,  the clancy franchise spread to movie theatres, and soon Clancy games were making headway in the video game world. Tom clancy brand is responsible for some of the best action games, Splinter cell&Ghost recon to name a few there was a time when each year at least three new clancy games were expected to hit the market and they used to almost be commercial and critical success.

STREET FIGHTER :

When Street fighter2 hitn in 1991, it changed the face of arcade games for over a decade, Street fighter2 introduced new combos and charge moves more that that it created a cast of memorable characters and attacks, even tough it wasn't the first fighting game ever but it was the best and with a rumoured new movie underway street fighter is a franchise which has a special spot in our hearts

CASTLEVANIA :
Loosely based on the dracula folklore, Castlevania was one of the predecessor of the gothic-horror genre in video games. The earlier games were platformers focusing on the whip-wielding, vampire hunting clan as players tried their best to rid the world from the supernatural. The series saw a huge change when it made a big leap to the 32 bit era with Symphony of the night. It was unquestionably one of the best jaw dropping franchises.

METROID :

When Metroid was released way back in 1987 it introduced us to a strong female main character The game was beloved not only for its intense shooting mechanics, but also its expansive alien planets that could be explored in a nonlinear fashion. With Metroid Prime, the series made its transition into 3D for the first time -- and in first-person no less! Hardcore fans were wary of this shift until they were placed inside Samus's formidable powersuit and saw the world through her visor. Immediately, gamers everywhere were enthralled by the game's immersive worlds and gargantuan bosses. Metroid may not quite have the same name recognition as Mario or Zelda, but it is inarguably one of the strongest franchises of all time.

DONKEY KONG :

Donkey Kong in the beginning caught the public eye in 1982 for kidnapping a certain plumber's girlfriend and after that he started helping kids learning math and in 90's he returned with a amazing makeover with the Donkey Kong country series. apparently tormented by inner demons donkey Kong often find himself engaged in criminal activities in Mario vs donkey Kong series

THE SIMS :

Brainchild of Will Wright, the Sim franchise has proven one of the most influential in gaming history. It began in 1989 with the release of Sim City. The Sim games challenged players intellectually. These were rare games that could not be won or lost, merely experienced. Eventually, Sim left the realm of the inorganic and tackled simulating normal life. When EA released The Sims in 2000, it became an instant hit and became the best-selling PC title of all time. Wright created a powerful franchise that continues to be among the most popular in gaming.

LEGEND OF ZELDA :
When discussing notable gaming franchise one cannot forget the legend of Zelda it is well known for its quality of gaming when the first game released in 1986 it introduced us to new and revolutionary abilities not only we were able to save games but we were also able to play the game and its quests the way we saw fit. The legend of Zelda created a beautiful world it created the perfect action-adventure game and inspired game designs for decades. In the mid 1990's the series made its transition into 3D with Ocarina of Time, and that was the moment when the gaming world was changed for forever making the franchise a legend in its own right.

MARIO
             :
Well Mario changed it all lets be honest without him none of us would be playing videogames today. It was Super Mario Bros which bought the entire industry back from the dead in 1985 Mario was the game that captured our hearts everywhere, it is "THE BEST GAME EVER". Mario has been entertaining us for more than three decades now and the franchise is still going strong

THE 2000's ERA :

This ERA introduced us to new open world franchises and as well as unique gaming mechanics, this ERA gave us phenomenal MMOs and Sandbox games, this ERA not only improved the graphic but it also saw a increase in attention towards the story and sheer beauty. This ERA will always be remembered as the time when games became more than just games.

FINAL FANTASY :

Final Fantasy saw a huge number of twists and turns in its brief history but it was no doubt the best RPG franchise of all time and then came the time when it changed as it re designed itself it wasn't that tiring action-halting nature or the strict turn-based combat anymore. Final Fantasy XII was a huge revelation. It was not that oh you have to square up on opposite side of the screen and deliver a blow and then awkwardly retreating to your position to hopelessly wait for the next round. Finally we had the taste of battling in real time, and also on the world map you wouldn't stumble upon invisible monsters. If you were about to encounter a monster you could see it in all of its ugliness glory across the landscape, which was undoubtedly one of the best thing that could ever happen to that franchise as it added a whole new level of experience.

THE ELDER SCROLLS :
If you're going to spend countless hours of your life immersed in RPG's it might as well be the Elder Scrolls series. from the very first scene you are caught up in an epic medieval adventure that requires both your brain and your adrenal glands in equal measures.

GOD OF WAR :

God of War is humoungusly inspired from ancient Greek Mythology, it lets us create havoc as the character Kratos has a score to settle with the God of War ARES, it is a gruesome game and all the blood-spattering action is not merciful, but this franchise transcends mere gore and proves how viscerally charged a mythological framework can be when its used as a playground for dramatic reinterpitation.

METAL GEAR SOLID (SONS OF LIBERTY) :
The massively popular franchise Metal Gear Solid regenerated itself in the early 2000's by releasing Metal Gear Solid 2, and it doubled down on everything that made the series with its instant laser precise gameplay, top shelf work on voice over and a mind bending storyline. The director Hideo Kojima executed a beautiful fusion of cinema and gaming that encapsulated the post 9/11 paranoia of survellance and censorship. And the often criticized bait and switch of the lead character toyed with the audience's expectations of a sequel.

HALO :

If youre a human male between the age of seven to hundredandten the possibility of you spending more than a billion sleepless and trash talk filled nights playing HALO is way too damn high when the game was released in 2001 for Xbox, our hero Master chief saved humankind, and most probably Bill Gate's gaming consoles in the process. This game has a perfectly balanced multiplayer experience and has been copied by almost every other game

THE YEAR 2004 :
this was the year when the best franchises released their first or their top notch games and to this date 2004 is considered the best year for every gaming franchise,
this year saw the release of :
Half Life 2
Halo 2
